March 23, 2009 - Gaumont Pathé Archives selects Opsomai and Sinequa to optimize online access to its collection

Gaumont Pathé Archives has chosen solutions from Opsomai and Sinequa to provide new online access to its archives along with a panel of value-added services.
The entire collection is accessible via various themes, thesauri, key words: daily life, travels and discoveries, science and technology, people, independent films...
With a few clicks, all documents can be found, displayed in full screen in MPEG-4, selected in their entirety or as excerpts, ordered and delivered online.

Gaumont Pathé Archives is the leading French bank of moving pictures in black and white and color from 1895 to today. The collections contain an exceptional selection of images with 15,000 hours of archives, 250,000 documents and 17,000 documentary films. The evolution in the digitization of this heritage was essential for its conservation while at the same time facilitating its exploitation easily and professionally.

Thanks to the Opsis Media solution from Opsomai, specialized in managing, scanning and exploitation of audiovisual and multimedia content, the portal www.gaumontpathearchives.com provides advanced functionality to view and pre-select films, to define specific extracts, to pre-assemble orders or build a video online through a system of hierarchical folders.
Digitization of archives has been specially managed to facilitate their use for all types of media. Thus, the films preserved in MPEG-2 8 Mb/s can be delivered on media DVCam or Beta, and soon online in DV or MPEG-2, thus meeting the requirements of image professionals (producers, directors, designers, journalists, librarians).

Gaumont Pathé Archives has selected Sinequa’s search engine to go even further in the development of its collections. Sinequa’s technology, including linguistic and semantic processing of queries, helps the user to explore themes and concepts related to their initial search.
Thus, users can easily perform accurate searches (by keyword, date, reference, with filters such as people, places, etc ...), but also let the search engine guide them from theme to theme by suggesting complementary topics for navigation.

"With Opsomai and Sinequa, Gaumont Pathé Archives can now provide a high quality service to match the richness of our collections," said Manuela Padoan, Director of Gaumont Pathé Archives.

David Clemenceau, Opsomai, commented "This project has enabled us to enrich our image bank software Opsis Media through the integration of Sinequa’s technology, to meet the expectations of Gaumont Pathé Archives in terms of advanced research and navigation in its collections. This was also the occasion for Opsomai to take advantage of all the advanced features of its software in order to manage the overall business process of conservation and recovery of audiovisual archives, from the initial source to the delivery of pre-assembled films online or in other formats."

Jean Ferré, President of Sinequa commented "The challenge of this project was for us to provide a unified and comprehensive view of the vast collections of Gaumont Pathé Archives. One of Sinequa’s strengths is extensive connectivity to work with image specialists including Opsomai, providing a single point of entry to the archives, even though the formats, origins and classifications are not perfectly homogeneous over 100 years of history."
