Sinequa | Connect to knowledge

October 28, 2008 - Le Monde Enriches Newspaper Content with Sinequa

Le Monde, leading daily French newspaper, has chosen Sinequa CS in order to enhance the quality of its news articles. Sinequa CS will be deployed to enable journalists to quickly find and locate information relevant to their articles being written for the print newspaper. The implementation heralds the modernisation of information processing at the most internationally read French newspaper.

Sinequa CS will connect to many sources of information, stored in varying formats, across Le Monde. Librarians at the paper are responsible for sorting hard copies of articles into various categories such as politics, sport and culture so that journalists can find them easily when researching stories. This was previously done manually, but the deployment of Sinequa CS will help accelerate the process by pre-categorising the article with a much finer granularity. Librarians will then validate the selection of categories and further refine the categorisation. Not only does this streamline the process and make articles more readily available, it also makes it easier and quicker for journalists to locate the articles they are looking for, as all the information is searchable via a single  interface. It will also help librarians to dedicate themselves to more value added tasks like the preparation of editorial features for special releases.

"Sinequa CS addresses the problems of the press industry," says Sébastian Carganico, Head of Documentation, Le Monde. "With the Sinequa CS connectivity 'framework' to all sources, access management and the user interface has been delivered, avoiding additional development that would have slowed down the application. Sinequa contributes to the production and quality of content and thus the reputation of the newspaper."

The implementation of Sinequa CS at the newspaper will also enable it to bring readers new sections within the paper from portraits through to biographies, therefore increasing the range of content.

"Le Monde has been a customer of Sinequa for many years," said Jean Ferré, CEO, Sinequa. "Enhancing the implementation of Sinequa at the heart of Le Monde is part of our strategy to provide the media industry with an essential tool at a time it is undergoing a radical transformation and more than ever, content quality and responsiveness are the real challenges."
