September 29, 2008 - Sinequa and Bouygues Construction Finalists for 2008 BCS IT Industry Awards for Organisational Excellence

Sinequa, the fast growing Enterprise Search software vendor, has been shortlisted for the 2008 BCS IT Industry Awards for Organisational Excellence. Sinequa’s award submission, in the category of Commercial Organisation of the Year, focused on the implementation of its unique linguistic and semantic search software - Sinequa CS - by   Bouygues Construction, one of the world’s leaders in building, civil engineering, electrical contracting and maintenance.

With 50,000 employees in more than 60 countries, and covering a large range of  industry expertise, the ability to identify the most experienced and knowledgeable resources wherever they are in the world, whatever language they speak, is a critical success factor for Bouygues Construction. Sinequa CS extends access to knowledge beyond documents, identifying the context (i.e. people, partners, locations and projects) and building professional social networks through experience and project execution.

Through this unique, patented search technology, Sinequa CS allows Bouygues Construction to make better decisions faster, manage risk, margins and therefore be more competitive. The full solution was deployed to 15,000 Bouygues Construction employees simultaneously, integrating 450 sources across five security domains. The off the shelf multi-lingual capabilities also enabled deployment across 60 countries. All of this was completed within six months.

Eric Juin, head of Knowledge Management at Bouygues Construction, said “We needed an enterprise search technology that would meet user adoption by delivering the right set of responses rapidly within a rich business context to help staff find the appropriate knowledge resource in order to make better decisions faster. Finding people and building a professional network is an essential part of our approach as it addresses one of the biggest upcoming challenges in our fast pace global economy: baby-boomer retirements and rapid business growth. Furthermore, we needed a robust turnkey solution that could be deployed with no development, but rather a config to deploy approach. Sinequa was chosen after being thoroughly tested against the largest player in the market.”

CEO of Sinequa, Jean Ferré, said “To be named a finalist for such a prestigious award is a great achievement for us. In an increasingly regulated and fluctuating market place, enterprise search technology has a key role to play in ensuring that businesses remain agile and competitive. Bouygues Construction is the perfect example of how, by equipping staff with the ability to leverage expertise and knowledge, organisations can improve their operational efficiency and become more profitable as a result.”

The BCS IT Industry Awards, supported by Intellect and NCC, are the leading hallmark of success amongst practitioners today.  The cross industry awards form a central element to the BCS’ professionalism in IT initiatives and recognise, promote and acclaim excellence, professionalism, innovation and the outstanding achievements to which individuals and groups contribute.

David Clarke, BCS chief executive says: “In the current economic situation it is rewarding to see that IT is continuing to lead through innovation and deliver real business benefits.  These projects reflect the fact that technology is an integral and expected part of everyday life and is at the heart of literally every business – even farming.”

John Higgins, director general at Intellect says: “Intellect is delighted to be involved with the BCS IT Industry awards again. Information communication technology improves organisations’ competitiveness and productivity, and helps them meet the needs of their customers more effectively. These awards recognise those technology suppliers, individuals and organisations which do this best. The quality of entries is once again very high and I do not envy the judges their task of identifying the winners – it’s going to be a difficult job.”
