January 24, 2008 - Sinequa announces the launch of the RPM2 project supported by the ANR
Paris, January 24, 2008 - Sinequa and Sinequa Labs, their laboratory of natural language processing, announce the launch of the RPM2 (Pluri-media, Multi-documents, and Multi-opinions) project, an exploratory industrial research project whose purpose is the development of automatic methods for multi-document summaries including text, audio and video, and classifications according to the opinions expressed in the various documents.
The project, sponsored by the ANR (National Research Agency), will continue over a period of 36 months.
"As a specialist in access to information, Sinequa is particularly committed to the needs of users: to get an overview of all the information that is available to them, in the form of text, video (podcast) or audio recordings, while preserving the diversity of opinions expressed. That is the ambition of RPM2, the project that Sinequa Labs will lead with Eurecom, the LIA and Wikio. The results will be a decisive advantage for our Enterprise Search solution, Sinequa CS," commented Jean Ferré, President of Sinequa.
Details of the RPM2 project:
The summary of methodologies will be tested where they exist on both academic criteria and in the real context of virtual communities that will be put in place by Wikio.
The industrial, scientific and economic stakes are very high because information management is an increasing problem in our society. Many locks will be need to be opened during the industrial research project.
The project focuses simultaneously on Web 2.0, management of multimedia and pluri-media information, the creation of new documents from existing ones, collections of content with consistent editorial and a multimodal approach to indexing.
The economic impact of the project is very high:
- automatic summaries are the most logical solution for information overload;
- pluri-media (which is a way to extract synthetic information from a variety of media sources) is a necessity because of the exponential increase of podcasts
- summaries taking into account opinion criteria that demonstrates various trends are guarantors of the ethical diffusion of information.
The RPM2 project partnership:
Consists of 4 recognized and complimentary teams:
- Sinequa (Sinequa Labs department), the project leader, will provide their expertise in information management and subject monitoring,
- Eurecom Institute (Multimedia Communications department) will provide their expertise in the field of image analysis and video clips,
- Computer Science Laboratory of Avignon (Automatic Speech Processing Team) will provide their expertise in automatic speech processing and multi document summaries,
- Wikio will provide their expertise in virtual communities and social ties and a multi-user testing environment.
In addition, Syllabs, a private research laboratory, will also be called upon for their expertise in linguistic analysis and information management.
